Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad or Malayan Railway provides comfortable and economical rail services from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, Alor Setar and Arau. From Butterworth you may take the ferry to Penang Island and another ferry directly to Langkawi Island from Pengkalan Weld on Penang Island.Alternatively you may by land, taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah orKuala Perlis for the ferry trip to Langkawi Island.

You may also opt to travel on by rail to Alor Star or Arau. From Alor Star the nearest ferry terminal to Langkawi Island is at Kuala Kedah and from Arau the nearest ferry terminal is Kuala Perlis.


SELF-DRIVEN BY ROAD
Those traveling by road to Langkawi has the choices of alighting the ferry from 3 points, either from Pengkalan Weld, Penang Island, Kuala Kedah in Kedah or Kuala Perlis in Perlis. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Penang takes about 4 hours, 6 hours to Kuala Kedah and 7 hours to Kuala Perlis. Car parking facilities are available at all embarkation points.

Express ferries provide regular services daily to Langkawi from Pengkalan Weld on Penang Island, Kuala Kedah, in Kedah and Kuala Perlis in Perlis.

Ferry from Kuala Kedah are able to transport vehicles into Langkawi Island. Prior reservation are required for this service.

FERRY FROM PENANG ISLAND TO LANGKAWI :
Two ferries ply from Penang Island to Langkawi Island daily at 8.30am and 8.45am. The one leaving at 8.30am goes directly to Kuah Jetty on Langkawi Island and the one at 8.45 am makes a stopover at Pulau Paya enroute to Kuah, Langkawi Island.

There are two ferries too operating from Kuah Jetty, Langkawi to Penang Island at 2.30pm and 5.30pm.
